Real Madrid have confirmed their move into women’s football with the absorbing of local team Club Deportivo Tacón.

Reports on Saturday had claimed Los Blancos would pay promoted side CD Tacón to take over the franchise for next season in Spain’s Liga Iberdrola for a fee in the region of €300,000.

“The Real Madrid C. F. board of directors, which met today, 25 June 2019, agreed to propose a merger through absorption of the women's football club, Club Deportivo Tacón,” Madrid said in an official statement posted on their website on Tuesday.

However, the move will not be completed until next summer, coming into “effect from 1 July 2020, at the next General Assembly of Members,” Madrid added.

In the meantime, CD Tacón will use the facilities at Real Madrid’s training ground at Valdebebas for the upcoming campaign.

“During the course of next season, the 2019/20 campaign, the C. D. Tacón first team will train and play their matches at Real Madrid City as a part of the transitory collaboration between the two clubs,” Real’s statement said.
