Gareth Bale's proposed lucrative move from Real Madrid to China has fallen through, according to the latest reports.

The Welsh forward was on the verge of a move to Jiangsu Suning and expected to sign a three-year contract worth a staggering £1million-a-week.

But it emerged today that the deal has been cancelled by LaLiga giants Real. The reason behind the move being halted is unclear at this stage. Fellow Madrid attacker Marco Asensio is likely to miss most of the season after rupturing his ACL in a friendly against Arsenal earlier this month, but it had been thought that that injury would have no impact on Bale's future.

Bale has been at the centre of a very public transfer saga this summer, with Los Blancos manager Zinidine Zidane keen to move him on.

The Madrid boss had all-but confirmed Bale's departure during their preseason tour of the USA, prompting Bale's agent to brand him 'a disgrace' as tensions between both camps rose.

Despite having a hand in some of Madrid's biggest successes in recent years, Bale has become something of an outcast at the Bernabeu, and was even jeered by his own fans at times during the side's tumultuous campaign last season.
