Harry Kane says their Champions League draw at the Santiago Bernabeu shows just how far Tottenham have come as a team.

Having taken the lead against Real Madrid when Kane’s deft flick ricocheted off defender Raphael Varane and into Keylor Navas’ net, a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty levelled things on the stroke of half-time.

A resolute second-half showing from Spurs, though, means they remain undefeated after three games and in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition for the first time since 2011.

"We are happy,” Kane told BT Sport.

“Of course they are going to have chances but we played well and made it tough for them.

“A point at Bernabeu, you would take that every day of the week. It shows how far we have come as a team."

While Spurs were impressive, they could have had more than a point when Kane got through one-on-one with Navas, only for the Madrid ‘keeper to pull off a spectacular finger-tip save and deny Tottenham’s man of the moment a winner.

"I thought I did everything right,” Kane said of his second-half effort.

“I opened my body, I put the ball where I wanted to and he made a very good save."
