Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will hold a press conference this evening amid reports that manager Rafael Benitez is set to be sacked.

A statement from the club confirmed that Perez, who has drawn criticism in recent weeks for the imbalanced squad created by his Galactico policy, would face the media at 6:30pm UK time.

The Spanish giants currently lie third in La Liga after a 4-0 defeat to rivals Barcelona. It was a second consecutive defeat for Madrid, who lost 3-2 to Sevilla prior to the international break.

Reports emerged prior to Saturday's match that Benitez, who joined in June after resigning from Napoli, would be replaced by club legend Zinedine Zidane should he lose El Clasico.

In the aftermath of the humiliating defeat Spanish newspaper Marca claimed that Benitez was a "condemned man".

"Whether it's now or in June, the dismissal of Rafa Benitez only needs a date putting on it," the report added.

"The players can't stand him."

Benitez has a three-year contract with the Spanish giants but should he depart Real Madrid will be searching for their 14th manager in 15 years.
