Chelsea striker Radamel Falcao has claimed he hasn't been given the opportunities that he craves at Stamford Bridge this season.

The Colombia international completed a season-long loan move to the Blues in the summer but has struggled to become a regular in west London.

The 29-year-old has scored just one goal in nine top-flight appearances this term and has not featured for the club's first team since mid October.

Diego Costa remains Chelsea's first-choice striker, despite a lack of form in recent weeks, and Falcao has had to make do with playing second fiddle to the Spaniard.

Falcao's current problems are similar to those he experienced at Manchester United last season as he also struggled to produce consistent performances while on loan at Old Trafford.

The forward is grateful for Chelsea's decision to sign him after a disappointing spell with the Red Devils but remains adamant he is yet to be given enough of a chance to prove his worth.

"Chelsea are the team who bet on me, and I took that opportunity," Falcao told Hola Colombia.

"However, it has been complicated because the team hasn't started the season the best, nor have I been given the opportunities I want."

Despite his lack of game time - and Chelsea's poor form - the striker remains upbeat about the second half of the season and is keen to rediscover his best form.

"But I'm very grateful, very happy. As for the future, I hope to have more opportunities to show what I can do in the second half of the season," he added.

Falcao has only started one Premier League game for Chelsea but is in the frame to feature for Guus Hiddink's side on Monday evening.

Costa is suspended for the trip to Old Trafford and Falcao could be given the nod ahead of Loic Remy for the champions' second game in three days.
