QPR are expected to beat Fulham in the race to sign Bolton defender Tim Ream after having a £1.75m bid accepted.

Ream is travelling to London today to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical with Chris Ramsey's side.

Both Championship clubs were keen to capitalise on Bolton's financial problems to buy the USA international.

However, QPR have outbid their London rivals and are confident the deal will be completed in time for him to make his debut against Cardiff on Saturday.

Ramsey has made signing central defenders a top priority after Steven Caulker was loaned out to Southampton, Rio Ferdinand retired and Richard Dunne was released.

Fulham still have time to come back with another offer, but it looks unlikely at this stage.

Ream joined Bolton from New York Red Bulls for £2.5m in January 2012 and has been voted the club's Player of the Year by fans for the past two seasons.

QPR initially had a £1m offer rejected earlier this week, but are convinced they will succeed second time around.

Ramsey has four options to choose from to play at centre half but one of those is Clint Hill, who turns 37 in October, while summer signing from Wigan, James Perch, is regarded more of a right back.
