Neil Warnock has advised QPR striker Charlie Austin to sign for Crystal Palace as he would "fit the bill" for Alan Pardew's side.

The 26-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season and, under current transfer rules, is now free to discuss a move elsewhere.

A number of Premier League clubs are reported to be interested in Austin this month but he has spoken of a desire to stay at Loftus Road until the summer, despite his own admission that playing in the Championship will hinder his hopes of being included in England's Euro 2016 squad.

Austin has scored 10 goals in 16 Championship appearances this term and Warnock, who has managed both Palace and Rangers in the past, is adamant the striker should seek a move to Selhurst Park in the future.

"It is a little bit of cat and mouse between Charlie and QPR," Warnock told Talksport.

"He was a little bit disappointed how it phased out in the last window and I think he is making his point now that he is not going to go anywhere [this month] because of what happened in the last window.

"But I have said to him about Palace. I love Crystal Palace and I love QPR and I have said to him: 'for me Charlie, the way you play, you will get opportunities at Palace'.

"They need a striker definitely and he would fit the bill. He would score goals."

Connor Wickham is the only Palace striker to have scored a Premier League goal this season while Patrick Bamford has ended his season-long loan spell in south London early and returned to Chelsea.

Dwight Gayle, Marouane Chamakh and Fraizer Campbell are yet to find the net for Pardew's side, who are just five points adrift of the top four.
