Queens Park Rangers are confident they will agree terms with striker Charlie Austin over a new contract in the new year.

Standard Sport first revealed Rangers were going to hand the 24-year-old an extension six weeks ago.

Austin is the top English scorer in the Premier League this season with 11 goals and QPR are determined to secure his long-term future as other clubs continue to monitor his progress.

The 24-year-old has just 18 months left on his current deal worth £28,000-a-week and Rangers are prepared to double that sum.

Talks have officially got under way, but Austin has already revealed he is committed to staying at Loftus Road.

When asked if he was leaving, Austin wrote on Sportlobster last week: “No. I’m really happy at the moment. Things are going so well at QPR and they’ve given me an opportunity to play in the Premier League, which I’ve always dreamed of.

“I’ve got a contract, I’m happy, and the most important thing is that we stick together and climb the table as quick as possible.”

Austin’s excellent form has generated talk of an England call-up.
