Les Ferdinand has dismissed suggestions there’s a power struggle between himself and Neil Warnock at QPR.

Ferdinand’s future as QPR’s director of football has been the subject of speculation following the club’s disappointing start to the season. The former QPR striker fired head coach Chris Ramsey this month after a string of poor results left them 13th in the Championship.

Warnock, who has a close relationship with chairman Tony Fernandes despite being fired as manager by him in January 2012, is the club’s caretaker manager after initially being hired as a first-team advisor.

His presence has been seen as a threat to Ferdinand’s position if he doesn’t take over the team permanently because the club could keep him on in a senior role.

But Ferdinand told Standard Sport: “There is no power struggle. When I sat down with the owners at the start of this one, we had plan for the club. Within that plan there may be two or three managers that come and go because that’s what happens in football. But the club’s plan will always remain and I’m part of it.”

Ferdinand flew to Malaysia last week to hold talks with Fernandes, co-owner Ruben Gnanalingam and chief executive Lee Hoos over what decisions they want to make now, including over the new coach.

He added: “The time out there was productive. We want to get the new manager in sooner rather than later.”
