QPR are closing in on a remarkable £6.4m deal for Estudiantes striker Duvan Zapata.

The 22-year-old was also wanted by West Ham earlier this summer, while manager Harry Redknapp yesterday admitted he feared that Zapata was going elsewhere.

Rangers are desperate to add another forward to the squad following the departure of Loic Remy on loan and have stepped up negotiations with the Argentine club.

Zapata is now believed to be heading to the capital to have a medical and discuss personal terms over a transfer.

They will need to apply for a work permit for the Colombian, who is expected to be part of their World Cup squad next summer and hope one will be granted under the ‘special talent’ rule.
