Harry Redknapp today signed striker Charlie Austin for £4million and says he has no fears over the striker’s long-term knee injury.

The 24-year-old, who scored 45 goals in 90 appearances for Burnley, saw a move to Hull collapse last month after failing his medical.

Austin passed a medical at QPR this morning and Redknapp said: “He’s obviously got an issue with his knee but that’s why we were able to get him. It doesn’t affect him.

“He hasn’t missed any games with it and trains every day. I’ve worked with players like that before in Julian Dicks and Ricardo Fuller and they never missed a game. He scored a fantastic array of goals last season.”

Austin signed a three-year deal and said: “Harry spoke to me at length about the ambition of the club. This is a really exciting time for me .

Redknapp has told Newcastle they will not get Loic Remy on loan and will have to pay his £8m buy‑out clause to sign him.

Standard Sport revealed last month that clubs are not willing to buy him as Remy is bailed until September over an allegation of rape. Remy denies the allegation.

Redknapp said: “I don’t think he will go on loan. I can’t see any sense in it. I don’t know why we’d pay £8m and then loan him out.”
