Paris St Germain have announced the signing of Chelsea defender David Luiz on a five-year contract, following the World Cup.

The 27-year-old will join the French champions following the World Cup finals in Brazil, where he played in Thursday night's opener against Croatia in Sao Paulo.

A statement on the French club's official website read: "Paris Saint-Germain are pleased to announce that for a period of five years Brazilian international David Luiz has moved from Chelsea FC.

"He will join the group after the World Cup."

The announcement arrives less than 24 hours after Chelsea confirmed the signing of Cesc Fabregas, with the Spaniard arriving from Barcelona for a fee of around £27million.

The move to the French capital will see Luiz team-up with international compatriot Thiago Silva, while Lucas Moura is also at the Ligue 1 champions.

The transfer, albeit a slow mover, will not have come as a surprise to Chelsea fans, after Luiz seemingly said his goodbyes last month via his official Twitter page.

Chelsea confirmed the news shortly afterwards, via a statement on their official website, writing that Luiz 'leaves with the best wishes of everybody at Chelsea Football Club and we would like to thank him for his fantastic service'.
