Tottenham’s Danny Rose is relishing the prospect of ending Manchester City’s record-breaking winning run on Saturday.

City hammered Swansea 4-0 on Wednesday night to record their 15th consecutive Premier League win, surpassing Arsenal’s 14-game streak in 2002.

Pep Guardiola’s side also broke Spurs’ record for the best start to a top-flight campaign - held since 1960-61, when Bill Nicholson’s side recorded 15 wins and a draw before suffering defeat.

City maintained an 11-point gap at the top of the table and an 18-point lead over Spurs, who moved into the top four with a laboured win over Brighton.

Spurs have form at ending winning streaks after ruining Chelsea’s attempt to make Premier League history, beating them 2-0 at White Hart Lane in January to a halt a 13-game winning run, while they also stopped Guardiola’s 11-game unbeaten start in English football last year.

Rose described the victory over Brighton, sealed by lucky goals from Serge Aurier and Heung-min Son, as “not a nice game” and immediately turned attentions to Saturday’s “very frightening” challenge.

“It puts us into good form going into a very difficult game at the weekend,” the left-back said. “We’ll go there and relish it. They’re in good form. They do look very frightening - scoring goals and they’ve kept a clean sheet against Swansea. We’ve done alright there in the past couple of seasons and that should give us some confidence at the weekend.

“We were the first ones to beat City last season and we disrupted Chelsea’s unbeaten run. It’s another challenge we all look forward to. It’s a challenge the manager looks forward to. There’s going to be a lot of eyes watching us this weekend. We haven’t done so well away from home against the top teams this season so we hope to go there with some confidence and keep pushing on after three wins that we’ve had over the last week.”

Spurs are used to being favourites but go into Saturday’s match as overwhelming underdogs, despite winning more games at City - 10 - than at any other Premier League club.

But Rose rejected the suggestion that there is no pressure on Spurs and hopes City’s attacking approach will suit the visitors.

“There’s pressure on us from ourselves and the manager,” he said. “He demands the best from us in every game so I wouldn’t like to think any of us think there’s no pressure on us. We know our standards and whenever we slip from those standards the manager lets us know. We look forward to going there and being the first team to beat them this season, as we did last year.

“We don’t go into games thinking this three points is bigger than another three points. It was an amazing night beating Real Madrid, it was amazing thrashing Liverpool. All games we demand 100 per cent from each other. If we go there and win it will be massive but it will be nothing short of what we expect of each other.

“With the offensive players we have, when teams come at us, it suits us better and we’ll be looking forward to watching our offensive players getting right up against City and causing them problems.”

Kyle Walker will face Spurs in a competitive match for the first time since joining City for £50m in the summer. Rose, who has himself expressed a wish to earn more money and win titles, says he is not jealous of his friend and England team-mate.

“There’s no envy,” added Rose. “He fully deserved his move. He’s got what he deserves and I wish him the best of luck in every game that he plays, apart from when he pays against us. He’s the enemy this weekend. There will be no pleasantries until after the game.”
