Manchester United to face Copenhagen or Istanbul Basaksehir in Europa League quarter-finals

1/49

Manchester United will face Copenhagen or Istanbul Basaksehir in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side still have a Last 16 second leg meeting with LASK to get through, but having won 5-0 in Austria it would a truly remarkable turnaround from the visitors at Old Trafford to stop United in their tracks.

United have maintained that form since Project restart - becoming the first club in Premier League history to win four straight games by three goals or more.

For a long time the Europa League was seen as their best chance of qualifying for the Champions League - but a 3-0 win against Aston Villa on Thursday saw them move to within one point of fourth-placed Leicester.

Solskjaer is also targeting silverware in the FA Cup.

Success in Europe could lay the foundations for a title bid next season.

“I’m sure Man United will mount a challenge and get back to winning the league,” he said. “When that’s going to happen is down to every single one of us that’s here and how quickly we can make this process go.

“We’re definitely improving as a team and developing, and we have to remember we’ve come a long way in one season.

“Just focus on the next job. Don’t believe in all the hype or criticism. Do your job: go home, recover, come to work tomorrow morning.

“If there’s one thing I don’t want to see, it’s my team being outworked.”
