Athletic Bilbao confirm interest in Man Utd midfielder Ander Herrera and Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente

Athletic Bilbao are keen to re-sign Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera and Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente.

Rafa Alkorta, the club’s sporting director, has named a list of players the club are interested in signing, including the Premier League duo.

Athletic’s transfer policy limits them to signing Basque players only. United are currently in talks with Herrera over a new deal while Llorente, despite scoring a hat-trick in the FA Cup third round tie against Tranmere on Friday, could be offloaded this month.

"We are interested in Javi Martinez, Ibai [Gomez], Ander Herrera, Llorente…" Alkorta told La Cadena Ser. "It's obvious that any player that can play for Athletic is of interest to us.

“Nothing is easy but we are interested in having all of the ones that can come. We have not made any moves yet. We will start on Tuesday and we will see what can be done."

United activated a one-year extension to Herrera’s contract last year but that deal expires this summer.

Herrera is understood to be keen to stay in Manchester but has been free to negotiate with foreign clubs since January 1.

Llorente’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season and Spurs are not expected to hand him an extension.
