What’s gone right?

Clear at the top by six points after 11 straight wins and with the best defensive record in the League: the title is Chelsea’s to lose. Nine of the last 12 teams to lead at Christmas have gone on to win it and successive home games give the Blues ample opportunity to continue their form. Antonio Conte’s decision to use a 3-4-3 system has been a masterstroke.

What’s gone wrong?

It is hard to pinpoint many weaknesses but perhaps Chelsea could be a touch more clinical, given they have only scored more than once in four of their last six matches. Certain individuals are out of favour — including Oscar and Cesc Fabregas — but the major challenge will come when teams adapt to their 3-4-3 shape or injuries strike.

What do they need in January?

Marcus Alonso is yet to convince as a left wingback and cover in that area would be welcome. Chelsea may seek further reinforcements in attack, with Belgian Michy Batshuayi an unpersuasive understudy for Diego Costa, although he is young and only recently moved to the club. Conte often played with two strikers at Juventus but identifying the right player in January could prove difficult
