How the Premier League table would finish with home and away points-per-game plan

There are 92 matches remaining in the 2019-20 Premier League season, and discussions over Project Restart will resume on Monday as top flight clubs try to resume the campaign.

Neutral venues have been proposed to combat the coronavirus pandemic, though that proposal has received criticism from Aston Villa, Brighton and Watford.

The EFL are expected to finish the League One and League Two campaigns using a points-per-game system, with suggestions that this will be weighted by a combination of ‘Home PPG’ plus ‘Away PPG’.

So could this system be adopted by the Premier League if the 20 clubs cannot reach an agreement? And what how would that leave the table?

We ran through the numbers.

Pos Team Remaining H games H PPG Remaining A games A PPG Pts
1 Liverpool 4 3 5 2.6 107
2 Man City 6 2.2 4 1.86 77.64
3 Leicester 4 2 5 1.64 69.2
4 Chelsea 4 1.6 5 1.7 62.9
5 Sheff Utd 4 1.6 6 1.46 58.16
6 Man Utd 4 1.9 5 1.1 58.1
7 Wolves 4 1.46 5 1.5 56.34
8 Tottenham 5 1.85 4 1 54.25
9 Arsenal 4 1.7 5 1 51.8
10 Cry Palace 4 1.46 5 1.2 50.84
11 Burnley 4 1.5 5 1.1 50.5
12 Everton 5 1.7 4 0.8 48.7
13 Newcastle 5 1.5 4 0.9 46.1
14 Southampton 4 0.9 5 1.4 44.6
15 Brighton 5 1.28 4 0.7 38.2
16 Watford 5 1.2 4 0.66 35.64
17 Bournemouth 5 1.2 4 0.66 35.64
18 West Ham 5 1 4 0.8 35.2
19 Aston Villa 6 1.3 4 0.5 34.8
20 Norwich 5 1 4 0.4 27.6

Liverpool, as expected, would secure their first title in 30 years and finish the season with a whopping 107 points.

The Top four would remain as they currently are, but with Manchester City set to be banned from European competition for the next two seasons, fifth spot would qualify for the Champions League.

Sheffield United would edge out Manchester United by a miniscule 0.06 points to cap their fabulous return to the English top flight.

Wolves would finish seventh, beneath United, with Tottenham coming eighth - above north London rivals Arsenal.

There would be movement down the bottom, too, with disastrous consequences for West Ham.

The Hammers have a poor ‘Home PPG’ of just 1, and that coupled with bad results on the road would see them slip below Bournemouth and Watford into the bottom three, joining Aston Villa and Norwich City in the Championship.

Have your say! How do you think the season should finish?
