Premier League season should be declared null and void, Evening Standard readers say

The Premier League season should be declared null and void, Evening Standard readers say.

Discussions continue over 'Project Restart', with the majority of clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham now opposing the proposed eight to 10 neutral venues to complete the season.

There are 92 matches of the Premier League campaign remaining, with Liverpool two wins away from a first top-flight title in three decades and the relegation and European places far from certain.

Foreign secretary Dominic Raab claimed last week that the return of Premier League football would "lift the spirits of the nation". However, on Tuesday, a YouGov poll, which surveyed over 2,000 people, found that almost three-quarters of the general public disagree.

In an Evening Standard poll running from March 15, in which over 11,000 voted, 40 per cent have called for the 2019-20 season to be declared null and void.

A clear preferred option, "null and void" has been ruled out by FA chairman Greg Clarke. Standard Sport understands Clarke emphasised that the governing body would not sanction the season being voided or relegation scrapped and would use its power of veto to block any such measures.

Coming in second place, was "wait as long as possible to finish the season", narrowly beating out "finish the season behind closed doors".

Above is a complete breakdown of the voting results.
