Petr Cech was Arsenal's best player and we deserved to win, says Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka

Aitor Karanka felt his Middlesbrough side had deserved more despite departing the Emirates with a creditable point.

Indeed the Spanish manager insisted that had it not been for Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech Middlesbrough could have departed London with all three points rather than the 0-0 they settled for.

Cech made a string of fine saves from Adama Traore either side of half-time whilst Gaston Ramirez perhaps went closest of any of the players on the pitch when his free-kick on 22 minutes deflected off both goalkeeper and crossbar.

“I think we should have won the game, but before coming here, one point would have been really good,” Karanka said.

“But more than the point, the performance of my players has been really good because to come here and play against Arsenal at the Emirates and Petr Cech has been the best Arsenal player, that says that we’ve done a really good job today.”

A point could not move Middlesbrough higher than the 17th place in which they started the day though the result did move Arsenal top of the table.
