Petr Cech has warned Arsenal’s Premier League rivals there will still be a “twist in the tale” in this season’s race and insists the Gunners will not panic after falling to fourth place in the table.

Arsene Wenger’s side have now failed to win in their last four League matches after last night’s 0-0 draw against Southampton and find themselves five points behind leaders Leicester City with Manchester City and Tottenham leading the chase.

Arsenal were top of the table until their recent winless run and Cech said: “We had a position where we could only look at ourselves but now we are behind so we need some of the results to go our way.

“But there is a long way to go and there is always a twist in the tail so you keep working hard every day and try to keep getting results. If we believe then I think we can still do it - there are more than enough games to put ourselves back at the top of the league so we will work for that.”

Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster made a string of fine saves to keep his team level and in doing so he registered his fourth consecutive clean sheet since coming back from ten months out after undergoing surgery on his left patellar tendon.

Cech said: “Fraser Forster robbed a point from us because it was only thanks to him they got a draw here.

"They did really well in the first half but in the second half we did much better and created a lot of chances - probably the most we have this season at home. We just couldn’t find the back of the net because he was outstanding and made important saves.

“The worrying thing would be if we didn’t create chances. But when you have six or seven chances, you just need to finish them off.

"They are two points lost. It is not ideal to drop two points at home but it was one of those games where we deserved more.”
