Petr Cech limped out of Arsenal’s Premier League match with Watford with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

The 36-year-old goalkeeper suffered the pain taking a goal kick moments before half-time and was replaced by Bernd Leno for the last seconds of the period, staying on the pitch during the interval to warm up.

Though Arsenal physios had prepared a stretcher for Cech it was not required as the goalkeeper made his way off the field with the support of a physio.

Aaron Ramsey was handed the armband after Cech’s substitution following a week in which it has emerged Arsenal do not intend to offer the Welshman a contract extension.

The Welsh midfielder is expected to leave the club either in January or on the expiry of his contract at the end of the season following a breakdown in talks between the club and Ramsey’s representatives, who were believed to view Mesut Ozil’s £350,000-a-week salary as a guiding point around which to negotiate an extension.
