Patrick Vieira happy to see end to transfer window as Wilfried Zaha continues Crystal Palace story

Patrick Vieira is happy transfer window has shut, believing it can help focus minds at Crystal Palace.

After a busy first summer in charge of the club, the Frenchman oversaw a much quieter window this time around, with four players arriving – two of whom were on free transfers.

As ever, the summer at Palace was dominated by speculation over the future of Wilfred Zaha.

The forward has enjoyed a prolific start to the season, scoring four goals in as many games and has less than a year left on his contract at Selhurst Park.

Chelsea held an interest in the 29-year-old, while Arsenal were again linked with a late move.

Still, Vieira is pleased the distraction of the window is over but hinted Palace tried to do more business, though was keen to stress he was happy with this squad.

“Players who are here know they are here, players who aren’t here are not,” said Vieira on Friday.

“We can concentrate on the next game against Newcastle.

"For me, the window wasn’t stressful, we had a clear idea about what we wanted to do. We knew the profile of player we wanted, we didn’t manage it for different reasons.

"We’ve been clear about not bringing in players to make numbers. I said from the opening day I was happy with the group we had."
