Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have pledged to donate €1 million to help the refugees that have fled Syria.

Thousands of people have escaped the war-torn state and made their way into Europe in an attempt to seek refuge amid the ongoing crisis in their homeland.

Several high-profile football clubs, including Real Madrid and Porto, have already promised to provide financial support to those who have been affected.

PSG's vast donation will help to ease the troubles faced by those who have found themselves in a desperate situation and Julien Laupretre, president of the charity Secours Populaire, was pleased to provide assistance.

"We have already conducted projects with PSG for many years to help the most vulnerable children in France," said a statement published by PSG.

"We are now pleased to extend this partnership to respond to the urgency of the refugee crisis. The support of the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation will be very useful for developing our projects.”

The French club's sizeable donation will be boosted further by an initiative set up by UEFA that will see €1 from every ticket sold in the Champions League and Europa League donated to the refugees' cause.
