Manchester City's Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Zinchenko claims his post saying he wishes Russian president Vladimir Putin suffers the "most painful suffering death" has been deleted.

Zinchenko, a Ukraine international, has spoken out against Russia's aggression towards his home country, which saw an invasion begin on Thursday morning.

The City full-back posted an image of Putin on his Instagram story alongside the caption: "I hope you die the most painful suffering death, creature."

Instagram has told Standard Sport that they are looking into Zinchenko’s claims over the deleting of the post.

On Tuesday, Zinchenko - who has 48 senior international caps for Ukraine - took to social media and said: "The whole civilised world is worried about the situation in my country.

"I can't stay back and strive to put my point across. In the photo - my country. The country where I was born and raised.

"A country whose colours I defend in the international sports arena. A country that we try to glorify and develop.

"A country whose borders must remain inviolable. My country belongs to Ukrainians and no one will ever be able to appropriate it. We will not give up! Glory to Ukraine."

West Ham's Ukrainian winger, Andriy Yarmolenko, tweeted for the first time in more than two years with the simple message: "Pray for Ukraine #NoWar" with an emoji of the nation's flag.

Ukraine striker Roman Yaremchuk also unveiled an emblem in support of his country after scoring for Benfica against Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
