NS Mura 2-1 Tottenham: A long road lies ahead after Europa Conference League shocker

Antonio Conte rung the changes for the first time as Tottenham manager and will not have enjoyed what he saw.

From kick-off in Slovenia, Spurs looked cumbersome and clumsy, losing so many challenges and failed to impose much of anything on NS Mura who, with all due respect, should be swatted away with relative ease.

Ryan Sessegnon - who was name-checked by Conte heading into the game - was sent off for two reckless yellow cards before the interval and it was only by turning to the cavalry on the bench that turned the tide for Spurs.

That, no matter Harry Kane’s excellent equaliser before the final minute collapse, will be the worry.

While Conte is far too experienced to make any sweeping judgements this early, it’s already becoming apparent that he does not have the level of internal solutions that were available to him at Chelsea, when he turned their season around.

Investment is needed. Both financially and emotionally, particularly considering the distinct lack of urgency on show, more needs to be put in if this team are going to operate where Conte wants them to.

A long road lies ahead.
