Norwich v Manchester United team news: Wayne Rooney out of squad

Manchester United took on Norwich at Carrow Road without England forward Wayne Rooney, who did not travel to Norfolk.

With Holland striker Robin van Persie injured, Javier Hernandez was in attack, supported by Ryan Giggs and Shinji Kagawa, while Michael Carrick started in midfield.

Defender Rafael also missed out with a groin problem, while Antonio Valencia was suspended after picking up a red card late in the 3-2 win at Hull.

Norwich, beaten by Fulham on Boxing Day, made a few changes as Ryan Bennett came in at centre-back for the suspended Michael Turner, while Russell Martin played at right-back. Wes Hoolahan was drafted into a five-man midfield as Gary Hooper led the attack.

Norwich: Ruddy, Martin, Ryan Bennett, Bassong, Olsson, Johnson, Fer, Snodgrass, Hoolahan,Redmond, Hooper. Subs: Whittaker, van Wolfswinkel, Bunn, Elmander, Garrido, Becchio, Murphy.

Man Utd: De Gea, Smalling, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Carrick, Cleverley, Young, Kagawa, Giggs, Hernandez. Subs: Anderson, Lindegaard, Welbeck, Fabio Da Silva, Fletcher, Zaha, Januzaj.
