Newcastle vs Man City: Pep Guardiola wary of FA Cup test - 'they have the weapons to punish us'

Pep Guardiola has warned his Manchester City squad to be alive to the threat Newcastle United pose to their FA Cup hopes today.

Guardiola's FA Cup holders are looking to join Arsenal, Manchester United and one of Chelsea or Leicester in the semi-finals of the competition, but must beat the Magpies at St James' Park.

While there is a vast gap between both the talent and resources of both teams, Steve Bruce's Magpies held City to a 2-2 draw on Tyneside back in November.

Guardiola told his pre-match press conference: "Right now it is a priority because it is the next game and we can get Wembley again in the semi-final.

"I saw Newcastle and they have the weapons to punish us."

City are hoping to get their Champions Legue ban for the next two seasons lifted via an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, though Guardiola is still hoping to win the tournament this term.

He added: "The important thing is this game and after you can finish the Premier League as best as possible, finish second, and after that we have time to prepare for (Real) Madrid."
