Tottenham have the option to play a 'small number' of Premier League and Champions League home games at Wembley if their new stadium is not ready on schedule, the Football Association (FA) has said.
Spurs will return to Wembley - their temporary home for last season - for Saturday's match against Fulham but they are due to move to their new 62,000-seater stadium for Liverpool's visit on 15 September.
However, the FA have confirmed that Spurs could continue at the national stadium for an extended period.
An FA spokesperson said: "Tottenham Hotspur have the option to play a small number of Premier League and Uefa Champions League group stage home matches at Wembley Stadium, but their intention is not to and they have only scheduled the Fulham home game at Wembley Stadium."
According to the Sun newspaper, Spurs paid the FA 'a significant amount' of money to secure the option, which has already been activated.

Spurs were granted permission by the Premier League board to play at two different home stadiums in one season because their £850million home would not be ready for the start of this campaign.
Uefa has no hard and fast rules about playing European fixtures in the same home stadium, so Spurs could conceivably move to The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after one or two Champions League group stage matches – or for the knockouts.
Three-thousand workers are operating around the clock to try to finish the stadium on time.
The NFL – which has a ten-year deal with Spurs to play at least two games per season at the new stadium – has said that it has the option of moving Oakland Raiders against Seattle Seahawks on October 14 to Wembley.
