Swansea have appointed Paul Clement as their new head coach but the former Chelsea assistant will not be in the dugout for his side’s crucial clash with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park tonight.

Clement left his post as Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant at Bayern Munich earlier today and has agreed a two-and-a-half year deal at the Liberty Stadium.

He will have a watching brief in his first match as head coach with the Swans first team coach Alan Curtis selecting the side that will look to clamber off the bottom of the Premier League at relegation rivals Crystal Palace tonight.

The 44-year-old has served as Ancelotti’s right hand at Chelsea, where he began his career as an academy coach between 1996 and 1999, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern.

Clement’s sole managerial experience has come at Derby County, who appointed him to replace Steve McClaren in June 2015.

He was to last just over seven months before being sacked despite the Rams sitting fifth in the Championship.
