Never mind Manchester City, Brentford are the team to beat

Standard Sport31 January 2014

Manchester City may be setting the Premier League alight with their free-scoring antics but Brentford are England’s form team.

The London club are on a 17‑match unbeaten run in League One, taking 47 points out of 51 with their only blemishes being draws at Wolves and Walsall.

City, who went top of the Premier League on Wednesday, have taken 43 points over the same period and, as our table on the right shows, Brentford have also out-performed Championship leaders Leicester and League Two pace-setters Chesterfield.

Despite their run, Brentford go into tomorrow’s match at Shrewsbury only two points ahead of second-placed Leyton Orient.

Manager Mark Warburton said: “I do not want to sound boring but we can only focus on one game at a time and tick them off.”
