Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic believes the team will eventually reach the heights of last season but warned fans they will need to be patient

The Blues won the Premier League crown last term, losing just three games, but have already suffered defeat to Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Everton and Southampton in the league this term, leaving them 12th.

Jose Mourinho's men also lost in Europe to Porto last month but a goalless draw at Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday put them back on course for the last-16.

And Matic is certain Chelsea will progress to the knockout stages of Europe's primary club competition, while gradually edging back up the Premier League table.

"Step by step I think we are getting better," The Serbia international told Chelsea's official website.

"We are not in a great position, but we are working hard and slowly we will get back to what we had last season.

"I’m sure that as a team we will improve. Confidence is not high when you are in a position like we are now in the Premier League but I’m sure we will do better.
