Neil Warnock’s full of praise as his unsung heroes eye up record

Job done: David Cotterill holds his head after Paddy Kenny saved his spot-kick

Neil Warnock hailed Queens Park Rangers' true grit after they survived a battle at Swansea last night to equal a club record.

The goalless draw at the Liberty Stadium kept Rangers at the top of the Championship and made it 12 matches unbeaten, their best start to a campaign since 1947.

They can take the record outright by avoiding defeat at Bristol City on Friday and, after standing up to Swansea, Warnock insists his men are ready for anything that is thrown at them this season.

Warnock said: "You have to have a bit of resolve and passion and I'm really proud of the players.

"I believe I have a team which is capable of going anywhere and winning but also when we come up against a team like Swansea who put us under pressure, we still put our heads in, tackled and even the forwards worked back well.

"We had a lot of unsung heroes. I know people say we have big, strong-tackling players but I'd say we've got the opposite. It's a great mixture and I just hope we can carry it on."

Although Warnock was full of praise for all of his men, it was Paddy Kenny who made the most significant contribution, saving a 33rd-minute penalty.

The spot-kick was harsh on Rangers with Jamie Mackie judged by referee Simon Hooper to have brought down Darren Pratley just inside the box.

However, justice was done when Kenny dived to his right to keep out David Cotterill's effort.

Rangers now lie just two points ahead of promotion rivals Cardiff City at the Championship summit while Watford are a further five points adrift in third place.

Warnock was keen to downplay his side's position in the League and would not let his players speak to the press after last night's game.

But he is confident the leaders can dig in once again at Ashton Gate before an eight-day break.

The manager added: "It's a tough week for the fans, the players and myself. But if we put in another shift like that then I can't complain.

"We are where we are but I think there are eight teams above the rest in this League.

"We are 12 games down now, a quarter of the way through the season but I can't wait for my summer holidays already."
