Mohamed Elneny has dismissed rumours of Arsenal departure, insisting he can hit his best form in the coming season.

The Egypt international has been linked with moves to Leicester and Galatasaray over the summer after struggling to carve out a regular starting role since his £7million arrival from Basel in January 2016.

Elneny started only eight Premier League games last season, and did not feature in the Gunners final eight top flight matches, but played the full 90 minutes in Sunday’s Community Shield at Wembley.

“I am staying at Arsenal this season,” Elneny said after Arsenal’s penalty shootout win over Chelsea. “I am 100 per cent focused and will give my best to the club day after day.

“There has been a lot of criticism recently and I wanted to prove that I deserve to play for a big team like Arsenal. That was my best game for Arsenal.

“Winning the Community Shield gives us momentum ahead of the new season. We players talked about the importance of this game.”

The 25-year-old could be in line to get further opportunities in the coming weeks with Aaron Ramsey expected to miss Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Leicester with a calf strain.

Standard Sport understands Francis Coquelin, who damaged his ankle in the Emirates Cup friendly win over Benfica, is also a doubt.
