Millwall captain Paul Robinson is backing manager Steve Lomas to be a success at The Den.

Lomas has endured a difficult start at the club since replacing Kenny Jackett in the summer and picked up his first win as Millwall manager on Tuesday.

The 3-1 victory against Blackpool enabled Millwall to move out of the relegation zone and they face Charlton in a derby at The Valley on Saturday. “Our season is up and running heading into a massive game,” said Robinson. “Every player is aware how important the game against Charlton is to the fans and the whole club. It will be a great atmosphere.

“Steve likes joining in during training and has got a really bubbly personality. I have enjoyed things under him. It has been hard work but it has been good and it has been enjoyable. He has got good character and comes across really well. It takes time to settle into a new way of working but hopefully we are getting there. He has worked very hard and we are delighted for him.

“There has been a lot of changes this summer, with a new manager and a fairly new squad, but hopefully we can build on Tuesday’s win and give him the opportunity to start putting his ideas in place.”
