Mesut Ozil: I'm staying at Real

James Olley28 August 2013

Arsenal were today dealt a blow in their pursuit of Mesut Ozil after the midfielder insisted he is happy to stay at Real Madrid.

The Gunners have expressed an interest in signing the Germany playmaker and had their hopes raised after his apparent unhappiness manifested itself when storming down the tunnel following his substitution in Monday’s 1-0 win over Granada.

Arsenal were yet to make a formal offer but their enthusiasm to do so will have been dampened after Ozil committed his future to Madrid this lunchtime.

“I feel really good at Real Madrid,” said Ozil. “I have a contract until 2016. I get on well with my team-mates. I am very proud to play here.”

Arsenal are more hopeful over their interest in Real striker Karim Benzema and goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
