Mesut Ozil is expected to be fit to face Liverpool on Saturday despite being sent home from Arsenal training.

It had been suggested the 28-year-old was a major doubt for the trip to Anfield after being sent home from the club’s London Colney base on Wednesday.

But Standard Sport understands that Ozil only has a minor bug and is set to resume training again before the team travel to Merseyside.

The German has not featured for the Gunners since the 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Ozil sat out the win over Sutton United in the FA Cup but remains on course to return to first-team action at Anfield.

The German enjoyed an evening with team-mates Shkodran Mustafi, Granit Xhaka and Lucas Perez on Tuesday as Arsenal gear up for their first game in 12 days.

The foursome were joined by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, whose future at the Emirates Stadium remains in doubt alongwith Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs.

The trio, who were described by Arsene Wenger as part of the Gunners' "British core", all have just 18 months remaining on their current contracts with talks over an extension as yet unforthcoming.
