Mesut Ozil has distanced himself from rumours suggesting a departure from Arsenal.

Reports from Spanish publication Don Balon this morning claimed that the 27-year-old was considering his future at Arsenal as a season of unfulfilled promise comes to an end.

Arsenal's struggles in the Premier League and Champions League had apparently prompted the playmaker to consider his future but Ozil has moved to discredit the reports.

"I have seen the media reports today," Ozil wrote on Twitter. "Arsène Wenger was a big reason for me joining Arsenal – this hasn’t changed!"

A leaked agreement purported to be that signed with Real Madrid when Arsenal paid a club record £42.5million to sign Ozil in 2013 suggests the Spanish giants have a sell-on clause that would entitle them to 33 per cent of the profits Arsenal make over €50m should they sell their playmaker to another La Liga side.

Turkish giants Fenerbahce have also been linked with a move for Ozil though Arsenal have consistently made clear that they have no interest in selling.

Everton vs Arsenal player ratings

With a solid financial footing Arsenal are more likely to be big spenders in the summer, with Arsene wenger having £70m to spend for an "exceptional" signing.
