Mauricio Pochettino has made Tottenham stronger than Premier League rivals Manchester United, according to Everton boss Ronald Koeman.

Spurs finished sixth before Pochettino took charge at White Hart Lane in the summer of 2014 but the Argentine coach has led the club on an upward trajectory during his tenure.

The north Londoners finished third last season and are on course to claim a second successive top-four finish this term, while the majority of Pochettino's squad have been successfully tied down to new long-term contracts.

Everton are currently in a similar position to the one Spurs found themselves in three years ago and are aiming to force their way into the elite, despite not being able to match their domestic rivals in regards to spending power.

Koeman is adamant Spurs are an ideal model for the Toffees to follow as he believes Pochettino's side have already climbed above United in the pecking order and have Arsenal in their sights too.

“The best example for us is a club like Tottenham - many years trying to be part of the big teams," Koeman told the Mirror.

"Now, in my opinion, Tottenham is maybe stronger than Arsenal and is stronger than Manchester United is.

“They have signed a lot of good young players for long term.

"I think it’s a really good way how they work under Pochettino. I think he is doing a fantastic job at Tottenham,” the Dutchman added.

Sean Dyche's side boast a stellar home record and Tottenham's credentials without talisman Harry Kane are set to be given a stern test at Turf Moor.

The striker is currently sidelined with ankle ligament damage but believes he is winning his fitness battle to be fit for next month's FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.
