Mauricio Pochettino hails ‘perfect’ Tottenham win vs Manchester United to cut Leicester lead in Premier League title tace

Tottenham's collective display during this afternoon's 3-0 victory over Manchester United was "perfect", according to Mauricio Pochettino.

Kick-off at White Hart Lane was delayed by half an hour after the United team bus was caught in traffic, which contributed to a forgettable first-half.

But Spurs finally made the breakthrough when Dele Alli swept home Christian Eriksen's cross on the 70 minute mark.

Louis van Gaal's side failed to recover and the north Londoners cemented their advantage courtesy of quickfire goals from Toby Alderweireld and Erik Lamela.

Tottenham's win cut Leicester's lead at the top of the table back to seven points and Pochettino is adamant his side have not given up on a chance to win their first title in 55 years.

"I think that the performance was perfect and our players deserve full credit," he told the BBC.

"We fully deserved the result, I'm happy. We are still fighting for the title, seven points, we need to believe.

"It is true that after Leicester played the gap was at 10 points, it's difficult but it is important to show we are focusing on our job.

"I think we have shown maturity, personality, character," he added.

Spurs travel to Stoke City next Sunday but could be 10 points behind Claudio Ranieri's side at kick off as the Foxes are set to host West Ham one day beforehand.

Meanwhile, United boss Louis van Gaal beomaned his side's second-half collapse against Spurs, which leaves the Red Devils four points adrift of the Champions League places.

"Until the first goal we were at least the equal team. The better chance was for us with Anthony Martial, a big chance.

"We give the first goal away, a miscommunication and then in five minutes we were out of the game," admitted the Dutchman.
