Mauricio Pochettino has praised Christian Eriksen for his recent displays – and challenged him to do even better.

Eriksen has been one of Tottenham’s most impressive players in recent weeks, helping the club establish themselves as one of the main challengers to Premier League leaders Chelsea.

The Dane has been a strong performer for most of his three-and-a-half years at Tottenham, contributing a regular flow of goals and assists. This season, he has scored five times and has eight assists in the league – but still his manager is demanding more from him.

“The way we have played recently is perfect for Christian, who has been very good in the last few months,” Pochettino said.

“We are very happy – but it is never enough. He can improve. The whole team have improved during the last two years but we still need to do better and learn a lot.

“He is one of the most creative players in the Premier League, but that doesn’t mean this is enough, or that he cannot achieve a better level. We are here to push him every day to try to achieve that.”

Eriksen may be one of several players rested for tomorrow’s/Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Wycombe, of League Two.

Toby Alderweireld (hamstring), Harry Kane (groin) and Danny Rose (knee) all miss the game but Pochettino hopes to recover the trio for Tuesday’s Premier League fixture at Sunderland.

Erik Lamela was due to return to Spurs today/on Friday after spending much of this month working with the medical team at former club Roma, to try to cure a hip problem. The most recent scan showed no damage and Pochettino is hopeful Lamela will be available again soon.
