Forward forced to pull out of England squad

Manchester United have confirmed Marcus Rashford has resumed light training.

The forward was forced to pull out of the England squad who beat Italy and Ukraine over the international break to get their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign off to a flying start.

Rashford sustained a small injury during United’s dramatic FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham earlier this month.

Erik ten Hag’s side came from behind as their visitors were reduced to nine men at Old Trafford and duly booked a semi-final meeting with Brighton at Wembley next month.

United have confirmed the 25-year-old trained on grass at the club’s Carrington base, though away from the main group and not working with the ball.

Ten Hag will provide further updates at his pre-match press conference as United travel to Newcastle on Sunday.

While they currently lead Eddie Howe’s side by three points, the Magpies boast a better goal difference and will go above United with a win at St James’ Park.
