Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has insisted Marcus Rashford is happy at the club.
After a difficult season for the England international in which he has only been afforded nine Premier League starts since returning from a shoulder injury in October, the 24-year-old has been linked with a move away.
Much has been made about his struggles in front of goal too, with 24 appearances across all competitions only yielding four goals, albeit it’s important to take into account just how many games Rashford played last season.
57 games at club level alone without even taking into account England’s run to the Euro 2020 final, largely while playing with an injury, surely cannot have helped his cause.
Media reports have linked the likes of Arsenal, West Ham and Newcastle United with a move for the forward, who is reportedly considering his future at Old Trafford due to a lack of game time.
Rangnick, however, stressed that he didn’t believe Rashford’s playing time had dwindled and hinted the academy graduate had told him he was keen to stay at his boyhood club.
"I don’t think that he’s not had enough game time," Rangnick told reporters on Friday. "He’s had 13-14 games since I’ve been here now, he played more games from the start than he didn’t play from the start.
"He said to me that he’s still happy and that he wants to perform on a high level here for the club. He didn’t mention a thing about not being happy here. I don’t think this is an issue and he never said anything about that when we spoke.
"The (transfer) window is closed right now. Even in case he and his agents or his family think about going to another club, well, he can do that but in the summer."
United, who are fifth in the league with 47 points from 28 games, next face fellow top-four contenders Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday.
The London side are two places below United with 45 points but have two games in hand in their quest to finish inside the Champions League qualification spots.
