Edinson Cavani will miss PSG's Champions League clash against Manchester United on Tuesday night.

After opening the scoring against Bordeaux from the penalty spot during Saturday's Ligue 1 clash, Cavani left the pitch just before half-time holding his thigh.

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel said after the game that Cavani's injury was "worrying", and followed up on Sunday morning by telling French TV channel TF1: "The club will issue a statement later during the day. In my opinion, the news will not be good.

"There is a glimmer of hope. We always hope, but the first exam was not good."

The club have now confirmed the striker's absence.

"The examinations carried out revealed a lesion of a tendon on the right hip," a statement released on Sunday read. "The treatment and the duration of unavailability will depend on the recovery in the coming days."

PSG will also be without right-back Thomas Muenier. The Belgium international was also forced off against Bordeuax on Saturday after a clash of heads.

In a separate statement, the club confirmed Meunier has suffered a "slight concussion" which will require further tests at the end of next week.

With Neymar already out of both round-of-16 legs against United, the pressure will be on Kylian Mbappe - who replaced Cavani vs Bordeaux - to inspire the Paris giants at Old Trafford.

In better news for PSG, Marco Verratti started and is in contention to do so against United having recovered from an ankle injury suffered back in early January.

The Italy international played for 58 minutes before he was replaced by Leandro Paredes, who was making his home debut for the French champions following his arrival from Zenit St Petersburg.

As for United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was able to rest Marcus Rashford as the Red Devils strolled to a 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba were also replaced after 70 and 74 minutes respectively.
