Alexis Sanchez "needs some love" at Manchester United after the Chile forward turned in another sub-par showing during the Red Devils' Champions League defeat to Phil Neville, according to Phil Neville.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suffered his first defeat as Man Utd caretaker manager and Paul Pogba was sent off as Angel Di Maria returned to haunt his former club and help PSG take control of this last-16 tie with a 2-0 win at Old Trafford.

The first competitive encounter between these sides went the way of the visitors at Old Trafford, where the Norwegian's first European game in charge saw the end of his 11-match unbeaten start to life in the hotseat.

A double injury blow took the wind out of United's sails going into the second half, with Jesse Lingard replaced just before the interval and Sanchez coming on in his place.

Juan Mata came on for Anthony Martial at half-time, but Solskjaer's players failed to gel as goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe saw United chasing the game.

As if Solskjaer's men were not already facing a mountain to climb on March 6, Paul Pogba will miss the trip to the French capital after picking up a late second booking.

Sanchez has struggled to hit the same heights at United as he did with Arsenal, and again laboured in attack as Solskjaer's side failed to test PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Following the match, former United defender Phil Neville told BBC Radio 5 live: "There was a 20-minute period in the second half and United didn't touch the ball and Alexis Sanchez definitely didn't.

"He's not the Alexis Sanchez we fell in love with at Arsenal. He needs a 10 or 15-game run in the team without being brought off to build his form.

"Sanchez's form has dipped so much that at the moment you look at subs to come on and make an impact, he's not the one.

"I don't think he's gone, I think he might have to re-adapt his game. I think it's confidence. He needs some love and he's the one Ole has to work on.

"If Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are maybe out, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to get Sanchez back in to form."
