Man Utd must give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer time to salvage season despite dismal run, says Mark Bosnich

Manchester United should give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer time to turn their season around, according to former goalkeeper Mark Bosnich.

A dismal display in the 1-0 defeat by Newcastle United on Sunday leaves United in 12th in the Premier League - just two points above the relegation zone after eight games.

Man Utd have endured their worst start to a season in 30 years under Solskjaer, with just five wins in their last 23 games, and have not scored one more than once in a game since the opening day of the campaign.

The Norwegian is increasingly under pressure to start picking up results again, with reports linking the Red Devils with Italian coach Massimiliano Allegri, who is currently out of work.

But former team-mate Bosnich, 47, believes the club's hierarchy must be patient and back Solskjaer instead.

"I would stick. I am biased, I must admit that, because I am an ex-team-mate of his," Bosnich told Omnisport.

"He was not only a world-class player but a world-class person and I would stick with him. Every time things are going wrong you can't just change... are you going to have 10 managers in three years' time?

"If you look at the availability around the world it is not as if Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola are free and available. [They should] stick with [Solskjaer].

"However, there is a cut-off point. I said this before with Jose [Mourinho] - there is a cut-off with everyone.

"In another 20 games, that would be 28 games into the season. If he is third from bottom they are maybe left with no choice."

The task doesn't get any easier for Solskjaer as his side face leaders Liverpool - on a run of 17 straight wins in the Premier League - after the international break on October 20.
