Manchester United captain Ashley Young says he couldn't fault the "effort and attitude" of his team-mates despite missing out on the top four after a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield.

United went ahead through Scott McTominay's effort but were pegged back in the second half after Isaac Mbenza equalised.

The result confines United to Europa League football next season after Chelsea beat Watford, leaving them four points adrift of Totttenham with only a game to play.

But the 33-year-old believes that the players gave their all in their attempts to secure a top-four spot.

"I can't fault the effort and the attitude. In the first 20 minutes, it was all us," Young told Sky Sports.

"It's tough to take, their goal. We knew we had to help ourselves and we haven't done that today so we're disappointed.

"We stopped passing the ball forward and let them get back into it. It was a party atmosphere for them...it was a cup final, playing against Man United.

"We knew it wouldn't be easy. In those first 20 minutes we knew what we were doing, but we didn't manage to get the three points."

Solskjaer warns United stars are set for the chop.
