David Beckham hailed an ‘emotional’ reunion with Sir Alex Ferguson during Manchester United’s Treble anniversary match against Bayern Munich.

20 years to the day since United completed a clean sweep of three trophies with a last-gasp win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, United stars who played on that historic night returned to Old Trafford for Sunday’s legends match.

Peter Schmeichel, Gary Neville, Jaap Stam, Dwight Yorke and current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – United’s hero that night in Barcelona – were among those to feature in a 5-0 win over their Bayern counterparts.

Beckham’s performance, marked by a sensational solo effort in the closing minutes, particularly delighted the Old Trafford crowd – with Ferguson returning to the dugout to manage his side one more time.

Ferguson has been a regular at Old Trafford since recovering from a brain haemorrhage suffered in May 2018, with Beckham among those to pay tribute to the man who masterminded the greatest season in the club’s history.

“What a day,” Beckham wrote on Instagram. “So amazing to be back at Old Trafford for the Manchester United Foundation raising money for a great cause.

“Emotional to see the Boss back and to be on the same field with the players that we made history with…. Incredible feeling.”
