Chelsea vs Manchester United: Player Ratings

Standard Sport assesses the individual performances from Chelsea's 1-1 Premier League draw against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Diego Costa’s goal in stoppage time earned Chelsea a point after Jesse Lingard seemed to have claimed victory for United.

A first-half that consistently threatened to break into a meaningful contest ended goalless despite both sides having their chances to find the net. United in particular would regret having 10 corners with only one Marouane Fellaini header representing a sizeable chance.

On the stroke of half time Chelsea were denied what seemed a clear penalty when a John Terry volley deflected off Daley Blind’s hand. That Michael Oliver gave nothing was redolent of a game which kept threatening to become a meaningful contest.

Kurt Zouma’s injury, which saw the centre-back stretchered off on the hour mark, spelled worry for Guus Hiddink and moments later the visitors took the lead.

A flowing move worthy of any of the great United sides saw Lingard swivel and smash in an immaculate volley after Michael Carrick, Anthony Martial, Juan Matam Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Wayne Rooney had combined to find him in the area.

The goal finally sparked some attacking intent from Chelsea but David de Gea was not to be beaten, keeping out a thundering volley from Branislav Ivanovic and Cesc Fabregas’ effort.

With time dying down the ball broke to Costa in the area, he calmly rounded De Gea to secure a point for the hosts. There was time for the striker to go close again, but on this occasion Chelsea could not claim a late win.
