Bastian Schweinsteiger will miss Manchester United's next three Premier League games after he accepted an FA charge of violent conduct.

The Germany international was involved in an incident during United's 0-0 draw with West Ham last weekend and has been punished for his actions.

The veteran midfielder clashed with Hammers' defender Winston Reid and appeared to elbow his opponent, who fell to the floor clutching his face.

Match officials missed the challenge but television cameras recorded footage of Schweinsteiger's misdemeanour and he has subsequently accepted his ban.

An FA statement read: "Bastian Schweinsteiger will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after he accepted an FA charge for violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

"The Manchester United midfielder was involved in an incident with West Ham United’s Winston Reid in the 40th minute of the game on Saturday 5 December 2015.

Schweinsteiger will miss Saturday's game with Bournemouth, plus games against Norwich and Stoke.

The 31-year-old has started 11 of United's 15 top-flight fixtures this season.
