Manchester United's Ashley Young wary of Watford threat as he prepares for Vicarage Road reunion

Heading home: Young is set for a return to Vicarage Road

Ashley Young is looking forward to a positive reception on his return to Watford, the club where he spent over 10 years learning his trade.

However the Manchester United winger does not expect Saturday’s match to be a time for reminiscing and is awaiting a tough battle from the high-flying Hornets.

Watford have made a strong start to their first Premier League season since 2007; Quique Sanchez Flores’ team find themselves in 11th place and are as many points away from United as they are the relegation zone.

Young expects a stern test from a side that have lost just two games at Vicarage Road since the start of the season.

Five questions for Louis van Gaal during the international break

"It won’t be an easy match," he told the United website. "A lot of people wrote them off at the start of the season but they’re a team that works hard and gets players on the ball, and they score goals.

"They’ve been in good form recently but hopefully we can go there and get the three points."

The 30-year-old winger was a youthful part of the Watford side that last played in top-flight, leaving for Aston Villa midway through the season in a record sale for the club.

Though Young is no longer welcome at Villa Park he is hopeful he will receive a more positive response on Saturday.

"I’m really looking forward to going back. It’s the club where I started and learnt my trade and, hopefully, it’ll be a nice reception... a better one than I get at Aston Villa anyway!

"There will be quite a lot of my family going to the game, so it’ll be nice to go back.

"I started at Watford when I was 10 and left at 21, so I was there for a long time. It set me up and helped me get to where I am today and I thank everyone who was there at the time who I worked with."
